Dr Antony Suter
Consultant Ophthalmologist and Ophthalmic Surgeon
Dr Antony Suter grew up in Wellington and trained in Medicine in Dunedin and Christchurch before commencing his eye specialist training in the UK in 1996. He then completed formal training in eye medicine and surgery in New Zealand continuing with several years of further specialist fellowships in NZ and the UK. Antony has been in public and private practice in Nelson since 2006. He specialises in cataract, glaucoma, eyelid and paediatric strabismus surgery, and general Ophthalmology.
Fiona Bamforth
Fiona is a Nurse Practitioner specialising in Ophthalmology. She graduated in 1991, and has worked in Ophthalmology since starting at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London in 1993. She returned to New Zealand, eventually becoming Charge Nurse of Auckland Hospital eye surgery operating theatres; she then completed her Masters Degree at Massey University in Nursing in 2005, her Nurse Practitioner qualification from the NZ Nursing Council in 2018, and is unique in New Zealand as a nurse providing laser eye surgery for post-cataract, retinal and glaucoma conditions. She predominantly provides nurse-led glaucoma and macular degeneration care in clinics alongside Ophthalmologists and is influential in NZ nursing, developing policies and guidelines for the care of these conditions within NZ hospital eye departments. She works closely with Dr Antony Suter and is a wonderful addition to our team!
