PATIENT
INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOWING PTERYGIUM EXCISION
- Approximately
36 hours after surgery, remove the eye pad that was placed on your eye.
- You
may need to gently bath the outside of the eyelids with boiled water to clean
away blood and ointment.
- Apply
a 1cm ribbon of ointment behind the lower lid. (Warm the tube in order to soften
the ointment before using it.)
- Place
a new pad over a paraffin gauze square that you have placed over your closed eyelids
- doubling it as necessary to keep the lids firmly closed - and tape it down with
3 strips of adhesive tape. Attach each strip first to your cheek before pulling
it firmly over the pad and pressing it onto your forehead.
- Repeat this procedure
next day. After this you are welcome to continue the patching as necessary for
comfort.
- Then use the eye-drops
(or ointment) four times during the day and the ointment at bedtime
for 10 days (or as directed).
Note
Bene: Your eye will be painful and feel as something foreign is in it for
the first 48 hours.
